Dave began practice in Colorado in 1983 at Holme Roberts and Owen and, several firms and 35 years later, is very pleased to be a solo practitioner. After 29 years as a lawyer, he joined a client, Thompson Creek Metals Company Inc., to lead its Environmental Department for five years. Following Thompson Creek’s acquisition by Toronto-based Centerra Gold, Dave has returned to private practice in Colorado. His current focus as a lawyer is on:
Colorado water rights, both adjudicatory and transactional, water quality matters, and water-related environmental permitting and compliance.
Mining Environmental matters, including Environmental due diligence in mining transactions, wetlands, public lands, and environmental litigation.
He has advised clients on matters arising under state water law and federal statutes including the Clean Water Act, NEPA, ESA, FLPMA and CERCLA. His litigation experience includes environmental and commercial claims, permit applications and royalty disputes. Dave has authored articles and spoken at professional conferences on various water law topics, the Endangered Species Act, wetlands issues, citizen suits, preemption issues, and public lands and mining litigation.
